Join us on a whale safari! Experience killer whales and humpback whales as they hunt for herring in the fjords of Northern Norway! We use hybrid-electric boats that cause minimal disturbance to the whales.
Whale watching is a fantastic "natural phenomenon" and an unforgettable experience! The whales hunt for herring in the fjords north of Tromsø. On the journey north, you can enjoy the magnificent Northern Norwegian scenery with spectacular mountains plunging straight into the sea, and have a front-row seat to the animals without disturbing them.
We start early in the morning to make the most of the daylight during the dark season. Guides share insights into the lives and behavior of the whales, as well as the culture and settlement in the region, while the crew keeps a continuous lookout for the animals. If weather permits, we deploy an underwater drone and hydrophone to capture images and sound recordings of the whales collaborating in the herring hunt.
Researchers have demonstrated that noise and vibrations from engines are the major sources of disturbance for whales especially, and marine life in general. When the whales are spotted, we switch to electric motors. The boats are designed for whale safaris, with comfortable, heated lounges and panoramic windows. This provides excellent views of the whales and the majestic Northern Norwegian nature from all over the boat. A selection of local food and drinks is for sale on board.
The duration of the tours varies from 6 to 9 hours, depending on the location of the whales. The season typically runs from October to February in a normal year. While we see whales on most tours, we cannot guarantee whale sightings. After all, nature decides!
